Cloud Platform Engineer

Location: London – hybrid 50%

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours

Purpose

As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you’ll design, build, and support secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure. You’ll enable internal engineering teams to deliver high‑quality services by providing well‑governed, automated cloud infrastructure, strong CI/CD capabilities, and robust security and compliance controls.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, build, and operate secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure

  • Define and maintain infrastructure standards using Infrastructure as Code to support consistent delivery and governance

  • Own the platform approach to secrets management and access control across cloud environments

  • Enable reliable software delivery through effective CI/CD platform capabilities

  • Evolve and maintain the Cloud Service Catalogue to support internal engineering teams

  • Partner with engineering, security, and risk stakeholders to deliver compliant and cost‑effective cloud services

  • Maintain architectural standards and platform documentation to support reuse and clarity

  • Ensure cloud platform services meet regulatory, security, and organisational policy requirements

Examples of Key Activities

  • Create and maintain reusable Terraform modules for provisioning Azure resources

  • Implement and manage identity, access controls, and policies using Azure AD and native IAM tooling

  • Configure and operate HashiCorp Vault to support secure handling of secrets and credentials

  • Build and enhance Azure DevOps pipelines, incorporating testing, security checks, and release controls

  • Review and approve cloud platform changes to ensure alignment with agreed standards and practices

  • Provide third‑line support for platform incidents and coordinate resolution with vendors where needed

  • Identify and implement improvements to platform reliability, monitoring, performance, and cost efficiency

  • Participate in platform upgrades and patching activities with minimal impact to service availability

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Strong hands‑on capability designing, building, and operating cloud platforms on Microsoft Azure

  • Deep practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, with Terraform used to create and maintain reusable modules

  • Ability to manage secrets and credentials using HashiCorp Vault, including use within automated delivery pipelines

  • Proficiency in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps

  • Solid understanding of Azure networking, identity, security, and governance controls

  • Confidence working within regulated or enterprise environments, with awareness of compliance and security expectations

  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to support automation and platform reliability

  • Azure Administrator Associate (AZ‑104) and Terraform Associate certification, or equivalent hands‑on capability

Desirable

  • Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)

  • HashiCorp Vault certification

  • ITIL Foundation or knowledge of Service Management practices
