Purpose of the role
The Finance Operations Assistant Manager supports the delivery of accurate, timely, and well‑controlled financial operations within Group Finance. The role is responsible for key controls and complex balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring the integrity of financial results across reporting cycles.
Combining hands-on delivery with analysis, the role strengthens processes, supports SOx compliance, and contributes to continuous improvement. It also provides cover for the Finance Operations Manager when required and works closely with stakeholders across Finance, the business, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities
Partner with teams across the Group to support projects, process improvements, and UAT activities.
Deputise for the Finance Operations Manager to ensure continuity and quality of delivery.
Maintain and enhance SOx controls, ensuring clear audit evidence and a strong control environment.
Support external audits, coordinating requests and delivering high-quality information to deadlines.
Oversee key finance operations processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and control.
Manage balance sheet integrity through effective reconciliation oversight and issue resolution.
Contribute to regulatory reporting by providing accurate and timely financial information.
Support finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Examples of Key Activities
Prepare and review journal entries in the General Ledger (Oracle), ensuring accuracy and audit traceability.
Oversee bank reconciliations, including investigation and resolution of exceptions.
Supervise daily cash and accounts payable processes, ensuring completeness and control.
Deliver and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances and escalating issues.
Liaise with stakeholders to resolve payment, reconciliation, and reporting queries.
Plan, execute, and document UAT for system and process changes.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and controls.
Maintain clear, up-to-date process documentation to support consistency and audit readiness.
What we're looking for:
Qualified or part-qualified accountant is essential (QBE considered).
Experience in finance operations within a financial services environment.
Experience in lifetime mortgages, non-life, or insurance accounting is highly beneficial.
Good understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and accounting principles.
Proven Excel skills (intermediate to advanced) and confidence working with financial data.
Ability to analyse issues and deliver effective, timely solutions.
Experience working to tight deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to manage and oversee tasks to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with stakeholders across the business.
Understanding of financial products and services is advantageous.
