Lifetime Mortgage Underwriter

Reigate - Hybrid

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours

Are you ready to take the next step in your underwriting career? We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Mortgage Underwriter to join our Retail Lifetime Underwriting team at Just.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our lending decisions—reviewing properties and associated risks to make sure everything aligns with our Lending Policy and best practices. You’ll play a key part in ensuring Lifetime Mortgages are originated responsibly, while providing clear guidance on property acceptability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Making informed lending decisions by reviewing valuation reports, flood risks, credit risks, and other underwriting factors.

  • Handling post-valuation queries and requests for additional information.

  • Responding to property acceptability questions in line with our Lending Policy.

  • Sharing best practices and helping improve processes within the team.

  • Building strong relationships with operational teams, intermediaries, valuers, and legal representatives.

  • Supporting projects that enhance our Lifetime Mortgage procedures and policies.

  • Ensuring compliance with AML, Financial Crime, and KYC policies.

Skills and Experience:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (A–C grades minimum).

  • Proven experience in mortgage underwriting or a similar role.

  • Confidence in making sound lending decisions within agreed risk appetite.

  • Strong ability to summarise complex information and make risk-based recommendations.

  • Great communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • A willingness to mentor and share knowledge with other.

  • Ability to communicate with third parties on the phone and via e-mail.
