Aden Risk Manager

I started at Just in January 2015 as an intern, doing market research. I had hoped to be able to get a permanent position with the group, because it has a really good reputation. So when I saw the position for risk analyst on the internal vacancies web page, I applied for it.

Since I started in this role, my responsibilities have been growing almost weekly. At first I was doing research and learning about our risk management reporting system. After I absorbed that, I started going out to people's desks to help them in defining their risks and using the system. Recently I’ve been supporting the facilitation of workshops around examining specific risk-related scenarios.

I constantly have to try to put myself in somebody else's shoes, to understand what they do every day so that I can discuss their risks with them.

When I came here for my interview, I got a sense right away that it was a place that I would feel comfortable in. Just walking around, you hear people talking and they're smiling. I felt it was a warm environment, and that feeling hasn’t really gone away.

I've recommended the company to a few of my friends already. I tell them that in 10 years it's gone from someone's sitting room to several buildings in the UK and internationally, and that it’s an innovative company with a lot of opportunities.

I started at Just in February 2011 as a quotes coordinator, which is the first point of contact for all quotes and general enquiries from financial intermediaries.

Two years later, I became a team manager. My role involves doing a lot of different things like overseeing training, interviewing job candidates, and helping my team members with their development. Recently I have been involved in implementing a customer services team for one of our new products.

Working here has provided me with a lot of opportunities. I’m doing an MBA, through which I have learned a lot about different areas of the company. The course is very academic but the real value is in working with managers from many different industries and cultures. My managers are very supportive; they allow me flexibility for study days and for scheduling my work around exams.

When you ask someone what they like about working some place, they always say the people – and that really is the case for me.

Everyone's friendly, wants to help and see each other grow. Employees here want to provide a great service to both internal and external customers. The company has grown, but that customer service culture hasn’t changed – it’s something we work hard on.

Elma IT Infrastructure Manager

I started at Just in 2007, with the Architecture and Governance team in IT, which supported all aspects of supporting and delivering server and networking infrastructure and software releases. As the company grew, the team expanded and I gravitated towards a primarily customer-facing role, responding to IT requests. In 2011, I became IT Operations team manager.

My job is varied; some days I could be meeting one-to-one with a team member, attending a planning meeting for disaster recovery testing, or advising someone on the team when they need to escalate a request or incident. Making sure our processes and policies are being followed is another important part of my role.

I always look forward to coming into work because every day is different. My role is interesting and challenging; there’s never a boring day here. I also appreciate the culture; the company recruits people who are committed, kind and considerate.
