Purpose

At Just Group, we’re committed to helping people achieve a better later life. This role sits at the heart of that mission, supporting our Capital Management team in developing and maintaining the systems that power our Internal Model (IM) under Solvency II/Solvency UK.

As a Systems Developer, you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative, in-house technological solutions that enable a stable capital position and support capital generation. You’ll work closely with a team of actuaries and analysts, contributing to both new initiatives and the optimisation of existing systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a purpose-led organisation, where your work will directly support our ability to make a meaningful difference to our customers’ lives.

In this role you will:

  • Become a subject matter expert and eventual owner of key systems within the Internal Model and wider Capital Management team.
  • Drive enhancements to IM processes, including annual recalibrations, proxy structure reviews, and capital impact assessments for Group projects.
  • Design and build high-quality, bespoke applications using industry-standard tools and technologies, aligned with our target architecture.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs, incorporate feedback into system design, and deliver training to IM users.
  • Apply software engineering best practices across your work, including testing, documentation, source control, and versioning.
  • Ensure all development aligns with our governance frameworks, including model risk and EUC policies.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in modern technology tools and programming languages.
  • A solid understanding of life insurance balance sheets and capital requirements.
  • Familiarity with business processes in insurance or financial services.
  • Ability to manage smaller, well-defined projects independently.

Experience

  • Significant experience in actuarial modelling.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and VBA.
  • Proven track record of using technology to drive innovation and process improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with Solvency II in the UK life insurance sector.
  • Knowledge of statistical and stochastic modelling techniques.
  • Experience developing practical solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Familiarity with managing models and EUCs within a governance framework.

Desirable

  • Degree-level education or equivalent.
  • Industry experience in capital management and/or Solvency II within insurance or financial services.

Company Benefits

  • A Competitive Salary, Pension Scheme and Life Assurance
  • Along with 25 Days Annual Leave plus an Additional Day on us for your Birthday
  • Private Medical Cover and Income Protection, just in case
  • A generous and highly achievable bonus scheme – paid annually based on individual and company performance against targets
  • Opportunity to progress within your career both in-role and within the company
  • FREE access to the Headspace App, a 24/7 Employee Assistance Helpline and Trained Physical & Mental Health First Aiders (On-Site)
  • A variety of Employee Funded Benefits available to you via our Online Benefits Portal
