Purpose
To design and support the delivery of cloud platform and infrastructure solutions that align with the organisation’s business strategy, digital transformation goals, and technology standards and policies.
This role involves developing and maintaining cloud platform roadmaps and contributing to the overall systems architecture strategy. It also requires close collaboration with the wider business to identify opportunities where technology can add value and improve business outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
Evaluate and recommend cloud platform solutions considering cost, impact, and alignment with business and system strategies.
Develop and maintain cloud architectures, standards, policies, and ensure compliance with regulatory and security requirements.
Lead cloud platform and infrastructure designs within an agile framework, safeguarding designs throughout the change lifecycle.
Support teams in adopting cloud technologies through reference materials, proof of concepts, and ongoing guidance.
Advocate for DevSecOps practices, promoting automation and iterative design for scalability and speed.
Stay current with technology trends and increase business awareness of cloud capabilities.
Research and recommend tools, patterns, and best practices.
Examples of Key Activities
Collaborate with stakeholders, including business, architecture, and development teams, to define and deliver solutions.
Participate in agile ceremonies to promote and protect design integrity.
Produce and review designs following governance and architecture standards.
Provide technical advice on cloud architecture, security, and identity management.
Enable decision-making via prototypes, guidelines, and collaboration.
Maintain roadmaps and recommend upgrades addressing security, scalability, and maintainability.
Contribute to vulnerability testing, security assessments, and incident response.
Design processes for managing keys, secrets, and certificates.
Serve as a technical expert for cloud infrastructure and identity platforms.
Mentor colleagues and engage in communities of practice.
Collaborate to enhance the architecture community and governance.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
The role holder must have the following:
Proven experience designing and implementing cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and other platforms, with a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, and architectural patterns.
Skilled in integrating third-party services, including API management (e.g., Google Apigee) and Identity Access Management (e.g., Okta).
Strong understanding in Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, ARM templates, Azure DevOps, Key Vault, Application Gateway, firewalls, VPN/ExpressRoute, and cloud networking.
Knowledgeable in storage technologies such as Azure SQL, MongoDB, Couchbase, and enterprise cloud patterns like event sourcing, asynchronous messaging, and microservices.
Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., AZ-305, AZ-104, AZ-400, AZ-500) are preferred.
Commercially aware with the ability to align technology solutions to business objectives.
Strong communicator, experienced in mentoring colleagues and producing clear technical documentation.
Self-organized, able to manage time effectively and work independently.
Collaborative team player committed to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies.
Demonstrated ability to deliver complex cloud architecture solutions in agile environments.
Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously and working effectively across teams.
Commercial experience in technology, preferably within Financial Services or other regulated environment, typically, at a minimum of 5 years.
Desirable Skills
Experience with actuarial and finance systems.
Proven ability to integrate in-house applications with third-party solutions.
Experience integrating or migrating solutions to cloud environments.
