Purpose
The Delivery Manager is a key member of the Change team, responsible for leading complex transformation initiatives and delivering real business value, managing multi-million pound budgets. They guide cross-functional teams to balance progress and risk, ensuring outcomes align with company standards.
With a proactive and solutions-focused mindset, they drive innovative delivery across complex domains, overcoming obstacles and aligning stakeholders to a common plan. Working closely with business, change, and engineering teams, they shape priorities, build business cases, and ensure early, iterative value delivery.
Thriving in fast-paced, agile environments, they build and lead high-performing teams across the Group to deliver impact results.
Key Accountabilities
Deliver Business Value
Own the successful delivery of priority outcomes in partnership with Sponsors and Product Owners.
Shape and communicate business cases, delivery plans, benefit plans, and cost forecasts.
Translate strategic goals into actionable execution plans, adjusting as delivery progresses.
Ensure smooth delivery of benefits and handover into operational use.
Lead Execution with Focus and Insight
Oversee delivery to meet business priorities, proactively managing risks, issues, and dependencies.
Drive continuous improvement through data-driven reviews, retrospectives, and feedback loops.
Champion value and outcomes over process-heavy governance.
Ensure alignment across delivery roadmaps and interdependent projects.
Engage and Influence Stakeholders
Actively engage senior stakeholders with transparency and regular communication.
Model delivery accountability and own project performance and outcomes.
Foster strategic alignment and stakeholder confidence throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Build and Lead High-Performing Teams
Lead a cohesive, cross-functional delivery team with a culture of pace, trust, and collaboration.
Coach and support team development in partnership with Change Delivery Leads.
Establish clear roles and ownership across internal and external contributors.
Promote an inclusive, “one team” approach across business and technology functions.
Skills, knowledge and expertise
The Delivery Manager brings a solid grasp of project and change management methodologies, tools, and techniques, paired with exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
They excel at leading, motivating, and guiding teams, and are known for driving project success through a strategic mindset and results-oriented approach.
Delivery Leadership: Proven ability to drive project success through strategic leadership, setting high standards, and fostering a results-driven, performance-oriented environment.
Strategic Planning: Expertise in interpreting complex business objectives and developing detailed project plans that align with organisational goals and long-term strategy.
Project Management: Advanced knowledge and application of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), tools (e.g., JIRA, MS Project), and techniques to consistently deliver projects on time and within scope.
Risk & Resource Management: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and managing risks, while optimising resources to ensure efficient and effective project execution.
Budget & Financial Management: Expertise in managing project budgets, controlling costs, and ensuring financial stewardship to meet project goals without exceeding budgetary constraints.
Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and align stakeholders at all levels, ensuring seamless collaboration and strong partnerships.
Problem-Solving: Highly skilled in analysing complex problems, identifying patterns, and formulating data-driven solutions that resolve challenges and improve project outcomes.
Quality & Change Management: Proficient in implementing quality assurance processes and change management principles to ensure high-quality deliverables and smooth transitions to operational use.
Vendor & Supplier Management: Extensive experience managing vendor and supplier relationships, ensuring effective use of third-party resources, and maintaining accountability.
Continuous Improvement: Committed to assessing project performance, extracting lessons learned, and driving improvements to optimise project delivery processes.
Experience
Proven track record in leading change delivery within agile, cross-functional, and complex commercial environments, spanning business, operations, and IT.
Broad experience with delivery methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, and Kanban.
Proven experience in Financial Services, ideally within Insurance or Pensions. Strong understanding of Financial Services regulatory and control environments.
Significant delivery management experience in multi-functional projects and programmes, typically 8–10+ years
Successfully managed programme budgets exceeding £2 million.
Led at least two major core system/platform transformation programmes, including SaaS implementations.
Experience working with in-house technology and engineering teams.
Experience in communication, effective influencing, and stakeholder management with senior stakeholders.
