About the role

We are looking for a Head of Financial Performance (Non-life) to lead on financial performance matters related to Just Group’s Non-Life business activities including HUB Group, and new initiatives in the Consumer space. This is done by partnering with the wider business ensuring that value for money can be at the core of cost and investment-related decisions made to support Just’s business performance and strategic ambitions. This involves being a ‘critical friend’ by supporting understanding of, and challenging, the impacts of business decisions on financial outcomes.

As the Head of Financial Performance (Non-life), you will lead financial planning activities for HUB Group including forecasting and producing performance MI. You will support the Hub Senior Management Team to provide financial analysis and commercial support to contribute to the Hub Group’s business success.

You will be the finance lead for new Consumer-focussed strategic initiatives including budget management, financial forecasting and partnering with the business to ensure they are optimising value and supporting strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Team management: Manage and develop a team of two (one Finance Business Partner, one graduate finance analyst) to carry out key accountabilities.

  • Budget management: Ensure that budgets are spent to maximise value and resource the initiative appropriately to support delivery to the highest standard. Challenge resource mix to ensure we are getting value for money and support the Procurement team in ensuring key third party relationships are appropriately scrutinised from both a commercial and risk management perspective.

  • Financial modelling and forecasting: Maintain regularly updated, rolling forecasts and deliver key inputs into the annual 5 year Plan process and Group forecasting process. Maintain the financial model for new business initiatives (projecting out over a 30 year+ period), ensuring it is regularly updated and is reflective of our latest outlook.

  • Business performance monitoring: Run the business performance monitoring for HUB Group and new initiatives. This goes beyond financial performance and looks at the key indicators to be used to measure the initiative’s progress and provide insight to inform decisions and where future actions need to be realigned. Lead deep dives and commercial reviews to provide insight and contribute to business decision making and improvements in business performance.

  • Lead the production of regular MI and reporting: Ensure that MI answers the ‘so what’ and that variances are clearly explained. Proactively seek action from MI where there are undesirable variances and contribute to actions around how variances can be improved. Ensure that processes by which information hits the ledger and MI is produced are robust and timely and improved where necessary to increase efficiency. Leverage processes and data produced by others to support these outcomes.

  • Lead the 5 year Business Plan process for HUB Group: Deliver the 5 year forecast that reflects the business plan for HUB and the key business assumptions the business are expected to achieve. Lead the review and feedback process including with the Director of Commercial Finance (in their capacity as FD of HUB), the CEO of HUB and ensure that the Plan is also socialised with the Group CEO ahead of approval by the HUB Board. Ensure that narrative supporting the numbers is clear and collaborate with key business leads to ensure ownership by the business.

  • Partner with the business: Maintain strong relationships including active communication and visibility with the business. Ensure you are approachable to support them to consider financial consequences to their key decisions. Help the business work through key resourcing challenges and prioritisation with a cost/value lens.

  • Strong business knowledge: Maintain strong business understanding including key strategic priorities and markets in which the business operates. The initiative itself is changing and evolving at a fast pace, so there will be need to keep abreast of the changing landscape and shape of activity.

  • Contribute towards engagement with the Group Board, HUB Board and other senior committees: Provide key materials towards updates to senior committees such Group Board, HUB Board and GEC.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is essential

  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and management accounting best practice.

  • Experience of working in a retail/D2C-focussed industry with high levels of marketing activity is preferred

  • Experience of working closely on strategic projects and/or start-up activities would be advantageous

  • Experience of the wider Retirement industry (both financial and non-financial) and Financial Services would be advantageous.

  • Experience of project/investment appraisal and resourcing/cost management for projects would  be advantageous

  • Knowledge of Oracle would be an advantage but not essential.

  • Strong and confident communication skills – both written & verbal

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to handle and manipulate large amounts of raw data into relevant and presentable formats. This will require very effective IT skills – Microsoft Office packages including Word, advanced Excel (including pivot tables, look ups), presentational packages (PowerPoint, PDF).

  • Organisation and Planning skills (including ability to prioritise / multi task).
