Purpose

QA Manager will lead the development of a scalable and effective Test function, with a focus on enhancing test automation, standardising processes, and strengthening overall QA capability. This role ensures consistent, high-quality software delivery across all business systems through the implementation of test governance and improvements in both functional and non-functional testing for modern and legacy applications. As part of a broader transformation programme, the role will support the modernisation of QA strategy, tools, and processes to enable digitalisation and cloud migration.

Key Accountabilities

Test Management & QA Maturity

  • Implement a standardised test framework for cloud and legacy systems.

  • Deliver QA maturity roadmaps and enforce governance, policies, and clear QA roles.

  • Apply risk-based testing to prioritise critical applications and compliance.

Automation & Cloud Testing

  • Develop and lead test automation strategies for cloud-native and legacy apps.

  • Integrate automation into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and define API testing.

  • Ensure automation supports hybrid on-prem and cloud environments.

Non-Functional Testing & Performance

  • Establish strategies for performance, security, scalability, and resilience testing.

  • Use tools for security and performance testing, collaborating on penetration and vulnerability assessments.

Legacy Systems & Modernisation

  • Maintain regression testing for legacy apps and introduce automation where possible.

  • Develop hybrid testing approaches and support legacy-to-cloud migration testing.

Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Build and lead a high-performing QA team focused on automation and quality.

  • Collaborate across teams to embed testing best practices and report QA metrics.

  • Promote shift-left testing to ensure early quality integration.

Examples of Key Activities

  • Define and implement a standardised test management framework for Azure cloud and legacy applications.

  • Develop and execute QA maturity roadmaps.

  • Lead the API testing strategy.

  • Promote end-to-end test automation to maximise coverage and reduce manual testing.

  • Establish a comprehensive non-functional testing strategy covering performance, security, scalability, and resilience.

  • Integrate security testing best practices using tools such as Veracode, SonarCloud, and Azure Security Center.

  • Collaborate with security and infrastructure teams to embed penetration, vulnerability, and compliance testing into the development lifecycle.

  • Develop hybrid testing strategies combining manual, automated, and exploratory approaches.

  • Build and lead a high-performing QA team focused on innovation, automation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications 

  • Degree or equivalent experience/qualification, preferably in Computer Science or related field.

  • Certified Scrum Master (or equivalent).

  • ISEB/ISTQB Certificate in Software Testing.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Proven experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud and legacy technologies.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in test automation.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps Test Plans and CI/CD integration.

  • Solid understanding of non-functional testing (performance, security, scalability, resilience).

  • Experience in API testing using tools like Postman or JMeter.

  • Knowledge of Azure monitoring and logging tools for debugging and performance analysis.

  • Leadership experience in maturing and modernising QA teams and functions.

  • Experience with regulatory and compliance testing, preferably in finance or insurance sectors.

Desirable:

  • ISTQB Advanced certification or equivalent.

  • Experience with containerised application testing (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS).

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) validation (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates).

  • Exposure to AI-driven test automation tools and frameworks.
