Purpose
The Test Analyst is responsible for the testing of software solutions, supporting Defined Benefit (DB) projects, business as usual, continuous improvement and small change. The testing service provided by the testing function focuses on ‘right first time’ delivery, adhering to agreed processes, controls and governance, actively encouraging continuous improvement. The test analyst will play a key part in defining the DB test approach and strategy for each project to ensure quality outcomes.
Job Role Accountabilities
Project Planning
- To work with DB developers and project stakeholders to establish a robust testing approach. To work with project teams to qualify and document the scope of testing required to provide assurance of projects/key changes.
Test planning
- To define, shape, plan, estimate and document testing activity for all test phases
Test phases and advice
- To perform specific test phases (System testing/System integration) and provide advice and oversight on all other phases (e.g. User Acceptance Testing). Conduct peer reviews of test plans, scripts and defect recording
Test Automation
- Build, implement and configure the automated test solutions.
Issue Tracking
- Log and progress test issues through to resolution. Log and generate appropriate issue statistics.
Continual Improvement
- Generate, and act upon ideas, to improve test processes and procedures.
Customer Focus
- Discover and respond effectively to ever changing needs of all customers; reviewing and recommending improvements to the controls that are in place to ensure both internal and external customers are treated fairly.
Examples of Key Activities
- Take an active role in the DB Development team, its activities and ceremonies
- Be a key part of defining a suitable test approach based on the needs of a specific project
- Communicate in an appropriate and timely manner with team members and potentially external parties about issues and progress on all things Test/QA related.
- Continually look for and suggest ideas for continual improvement and efficiency gains
- Actively undertake steps to keep test datasets and collateral GDPR complaint.
- Provide rigorously tested code that meets the agreed Definition of Done
- Create and update the Regression suite automated and current
- Analysis of the output of tests run through the range of DB projects
Essential for the role
- ISEB/ISTQB Certificate in Software Testing (Foundation Level)
Desirable
- Educated to Degree level, or equivalent – highly desirable
- Computer science related qualification
- Certified Scrum Master (or equivalent)

- Excellent time management skills.

- Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner;

Experience
- Strong experience in technical and/or non-technical Test Analysis.
- Familiar with Test Automation tools and the delivery of automated testing solutions using industry standard technologies, such as QTP, UFT, Selenium, White.
- Existing experience or willingness to learn BDD techniques; including understanding of writing test acceptance using Gherkin and the use of tools such as Specflow to create test solutions.
- Experience working within an Agile environment; delivering within defined Sprints; familiarity with Agile and DevOps principles and ceremonies.
- Working with stakeholders to define testable requirements using appropriate tooling
- Experience in planning and successfully delivering cross-business change projects involving IT change within the Financial Services Sector; working within a formal governance and control framework covering all aspects of project delivery.
- Experience with IT development processes and delivery lifecycles; test strategy, methodology, plans, scripts and defect management; release strategy and configuration management; testing tools, and applications across full project lifecycles
