Purpose:

As a Health Data Scientist in the Demographic Risk group at Just, you will play a crucial role in analysing health-related data to derive actionable insights that inform decision-making processes and drive improvements in pension provision.


You will be comfortable working independently and as part of small teams in dynamic projects across Just to develop predictive models, identify health and mortality trends, and implement data-driven solutions.

You will use a variety of data sources (structured and unstructured) to perform analytics and generate actionable insight and models. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvements across systems and processes. You will ensure that our analytics activities comply with data protection law and that we are upholding our values and ethics in how we use data.

Nature of the Role:
Data Analysis & modelling

  • Clean, preprocess, and validate health data to ensure accuracy and reliability of analyses.
  • Produce and present insightful analysis from multiple large data sources to help drive 

Business performance

  • Develop high-quality analytics using appropriate, industry-standard tools, technologies and languages.


Data Insights

  • Collaborate with actuaries, underwriters, biostatisticians and other data users to understand 
  • health and longevity trajectories and tailor analytical solutions accordingly.
  • Communicate complex health-related findings and insights to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Improve data quality
  • Advise on the development and improvement of processes and procedures which maintain

Data quality

  • Work with colleagues to agree, document, implement and monitor actions for improving the quality of data
  • Support the implementation of the data governance framework at Just.

Stay current with advancements in health informatics, medical research, and data science to propose and implement innovative solutions.

Ensure that high-quality documentation is developed, maintained, regularly reviewed and stored for all solutions developed and all operational processes.

Perform peer reviews of solutions and documentation in order to ensure that procedures and standards are followed consistently. Continuously work towards the objective of building in quality and provide appropriately tested solutions.

Qualifications

Essential for the role Desirable Master's in a quantitative field such as Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related discipline.

Desirable

PhD in quantitative field such as Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related discipline. Microsoft Azure qualifications or equivalent

Skills and Knowledge

  • Analysis of structure, semi-structured and unstructured data
  • Programming – SQL, Python, R, Julia
  • AI/ML ethics
  • Understanding of Data Governance concepts and best practice
  • Quick understanding of business problems and requirements
  • Strong communication skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills and adopt to new technologies
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Server technologies (Azure, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI)

Experience

  • At least five years’ experience of working as a Data Scientist or equivalent role, in applying statistical models and machine learning algorithms to health-related data sets
  • Experience and ability to respond to business needs by identifying appropriate statistical methodologies and presenting insight for decision making
  • Attention to detail & problem-solving skills
  • Relationship building skills and collaborative working style
  • Experience with IT development processes and delivery lifecycles; development methodology; release strategy and configuration management; development tools, and applications across full project lifecycles
  • Experience with Power BI or a similar data visualisation tool is desirable
