Day in the life of an actuarial graduate at Just
What’s it really like to start your actuarial career in a company that’s high-performing and committed to supporting your development?
As an actuarial graduate at Just, you’ll be making an impact from day one. From analysing data and developing technical skills to collaborating with teams across the business, this role is all about solving complex problems and playing a key role in helping people achieve a better later life.
Read on to discover what a day in the life looks like for an actuarial graduate. While this is just one example of a possible day, each day brings new challenges, opportunities and experiences that keep the role exciting.
9.00am: My day begins
I usually start my day in the office with a strong coffee and a quick scan of my calendar. I really value the time spent in person with my team – it’s great for bouncing ideas around and building relationships with colleagues.
9.15am: Team stand-up
We kick off with a daily stand-up. I’m currently rotating in the Pricing Team, so we discuss ongoing projects, any blockers and what we’re focusing on today. It’s a short but helpful way to align and stay connected.
9.30am: Project work
My main task this week is helping to model predicted future pension cashflows for a new retirement income product. I’m using Excel and other programming platforms to analyse customer data and test different scenarios. It’s challenging but I’m supported by a brilliant team.
12.30pm: Lunch & learn
Just regularly hosts “lunch & learn” sessions and today’s is on sustainability in financial modelling. I grab some food with the other grads on my cohort from the onsite restaurant and join the session together. It’s inspiring to see how our work ties into Just’s Net Zero goals and broader purpose.
2.00pm: Studying
As a Just graduate, I get protected study time each week as we are also enlisted to an actuarial apprenticeship scheme. I’m currently working towards my actuarial exams and Just provides fantastic support including study materials, exam fees and coaching. I go to a quiet space to revise for my next module.
3.30pm: Cross-team collaboration
Later in the afternoon, I join a meeting with colleagues from Risk to review some of our assumptions. It’s a great opportunity to learn from different perspectives and understand how actuarial work feeds into wider business decisions.
5.00pm: Wrapping up the day
Before I log off, I update my progress and jot down a few notes for tomorrow. I might catch up with some of my fellow grads after work.
Why I love working at Just
What makes Just special is the culture. Everyone is approachable, curious and genuinely invested in doing the right thing for our customers. As a graduate, I feel valued and empowered to grow and I know I’m contributing to something meaningful.
If you’re thinking about applying, I’d say go for it. You’ll learn loads, meet great people and be part of a company that is high-performing and ambitious.
