Purpose

We are currently looking for someone to join our expanding Investment Team as a Senior Investment Actuarial Analyst.   In this role you will support the Investment Team on a range of technical subjects.  In particular we are a key enabler to support the objectives of the wider Investment team.

This is an exciting role that carries a high degree of responsibility and independence as you will provide technical support to the Chief Investment Officer and the wider Investments team to facilitate delivery on a wide variety of investment initiatives.

Skills and experiences required for this role :

  • Progress towards actuarial qualification is essential. 
  • Relevant technical skills is essential. 
  • A number of years relevant experiences within Financial Services, Asset Management, Insurance Investment or Investment Consulting.
  • Working knowledge of asset allocation and portfolio construction. Fundamental investing knowledge, with the ability and interest to develop further, and investment function knowledge of a (life) assurer is essential.
  • Strong IT skills, preferably with asset modelling experience and/or Python knowledge, with the ability to think independently and hit the ground running by proposing and implementing solutions.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present investment matters in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent team-working skills and capability to maintain relationship within internal stakeholders and develop relationship with external parties.
  • Strong results focus, with ability to work efficiently and grasp concepts that are not straightforward; yet seek guidance where necessary.
  • This role will contribute to ensuring that the Group’s investments are profitable, capital efficient and securely managed, ensuring investment initiatives undertaken are implemented robustly and maintaining effective day-to-day investment operations.
  • Job Role Accountabilities 
  • Support senior members of the Investment Technical and Actuarial Team to deliver team goals.

The key technically oriented tasks include:

  • Contributing to the annual and quarterly new business pricing exercises. This includes setting the investment yield curves for in payment and deferred payment new business.
  • Monitor investment activity versus business plan and other needs.
  • Working with the ALM team, maintain a framework for assessing the ALM impact of investments.
  • Generally provide technical underpinning for Solvency 2 (Solvency Capital Requirement and Fundamental Spread), IFRS balance sheet and liquidity impacts of investment activity.
  • Maintain and develop capital and balance sheet optimisation tools to manage the inflow of assets and liabilities in a capital efficient manner giving considerations to medium term investment strategy, cashflow matching, short and long term liquidity and large transactions whether asset or liability side, including pre-investment of anticipated DB schemes. 
  • Maintain and develop tools used to price new assets acquired. 
  • Maintain and develop tools used for risk management under different reporting metrics to support Group Short and long term risk management strategies. 
  • Maintain tools that support our assessment of asset eligibility.
  • Produce/enhance MI and analysis capabilities of the Investment team.
  • In general provide support for investment projects of which there are always a few in train at any point in time.

Examples of Key Activities

  • Liaise with the ALM team to optimise the cash flow matching and broader MAP considerations from new investment flows and existing portfolio.
  • Liaise within the wider Investment Team on understanding modelling and MI needs and lead the development of this. 
  • Liaise within Investment Strategy and the wider Business on assumptions and methodology for the investment components of new business pricing assumptions.
  • Engage with Treasury/Finance on strategic liquidity and collateral management matters.
  • Provide Investment team support for the DB business.
  • Prepare papers for STILF, MAC and Credit Committee forums/committees.
